The Samsung Omnia 7 is mostly a very nice handset. It’s largely glass and metal construction looks good and feels sturdy, while it packs in plenty of features and has a stunning screen for viewing video and playing games. However, the hardware lacks a certain something in design and is incredibly slippery. The Samsung Omnia 7 is a pretty decent phone indeed – it especially impresses when you pick it up for the first time.

The screen is pin-sharp, and the operating system just blows your socks off the first time you use it – this is Windows Mobile in opposite land.

With a great screen, 1Ghz processor and decent camera the Samsung Omnia 7 is a good handset to showcase Windows Phone 7. Altoough it’s not perfect – it's a bit bland to look at and the camera isn’t as good as we expected, however the intuitive interface makes it very enjoyable to use.  We love Xbox integration and the Marketplace has more in common with the Apple App Store, than the haphazard Android Market. At the moment, game and choice is limited, although this should grow.

The OS isn't perfect, it's closed to start with. We’re not a big fan of having to use Zune software to transfer files - it just doesn’t seem very smooth. Smart Multitasking lets you listen to music, sync email, load web pages and download photos simultaneously, but not run all the applications you want at once - sure this saves battery life, but Android handsets offer it? Ultimately the Samsung Omnia 7 is a really good handset, Windows Phone 7 proving Microsoft is back in the smartphone game. Read more...

Samsung Omnia 7 Review at Pocket-lint

The Samsung Omnia is a great Windows Phones 7 handset overall. It might not have the best camera options, but the screen is absolutely to die for. AMOLED displays aren’t the most common thing in the world of mobile phones, and we love the vibrancy that it brings to your content and the size to beat most of the other rivals out there.

We found that Windows Phone 7 ran slick and fast on the device, with barely a hiccup as you move around the extra-wide displays. Apps open quickly and we love the simplicity that Windows Phone 7 brings - setting are few, but we didn’t have a problem doing what we wanted. The on-screen keyboard is an excellent size, so we had no problems bashing out Word documents with the keyboard in landscape, to then email to colleagues. Read more...

There's not much to differentiate the first round of WP7 devices, and only one of them has a 4-inch Super AMOLED display. Well, we've done our gushing, and it's obvious that we're in love with Samsung's Omnia 7. Simply put, this phone's got all the right hardware to qualify as a brilliant multimedia device in today's standard, plus its form factor feels great in our hands. Given the choice between this and the Galaxy S, we'd definitely choose the former for its more luxurious metallic construction; but then we'd sober up and realize that we're drooling over a young WP7 device, and any sensible joe would hold back until the market is ripe for harvest. Either way, out of the crop of launch devices, the Omnia 7 makes a great snorkel if you fancy taking the first dip into Redmond's renovated swimming pool. Read more...
