In The Box

Accessories

XOLO always packs something extra with their phones and its no exception here. Here's a list of all accessories you get inside the box with the XOLO Q1000 Opus:

  • Flip Cover
  • Screenguard
  • USB Wall Charger
  • Micro USB Data Cable
  • White Headset
  • Warranty Statement and User Guide

Hardware Overview

The XOLO Q1000 Opus is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Broadcom BCM23550 processor with 1 GB RAM running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. VideoCore IV powers the graphics of the device and there's a 2000 mAh Li-Po battery which keeps everything running. You have a 5 MP camera at the back with LED flash which is capable of recording 720p video, and a VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

Backcover Open

The Opus has a 5-inch FWVGA IPS display with three capacitive buttons just below it. In terms of connectivity you have 3G, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio as well as GPS with GLONASS support for navigation. Its a dual-SIM phone which is capable of running a 3G and a 2G network simultaneously.

Build

The build quality of the device is excellent, its white in color which looks elegant. Although I am not a fan of glossy backcovers, the one on the Q1000 Opus atleast doesn't feel as slimy as, say the one on the Micromax Canvas 2.2 A114. There's a metallic trim that runs on the sides adding class to the device. The buttons on the side are also made of the same material as the trim.

Top Side

If we look at the top you will find the familiar 3.5 mm audio port, while the bottom part of the device hosts the micro USB data-syncing/charging port alongwith the microphone.

Left Side

On the left you have the volume rocker which doesn't make any noise and provides good feedback. On the right you will find the power lock/unlock button which is the 2nd of the only two physical buttons on the Opus. The front is covered in a plastic/glass sheet which also houses the 5-inch display and right below it the three capacitive buttons for Menu, Home and Back. The earpiece, proximity and light sensors alongwith the VGA front-facing camera find a place just above the display on the front panel. The casing of the front-panel is raised slightly so that the display never comes in contact if placed face first on a flat surface.

Camera

On the back you will find the 5 MP camera which adds a slight bump, which actually prevents the camera from coming in contact with any flat surface. On its right you have the LED flash. just below it is the embossed XOLO logo, and finally the speakerphone at the bottom. The grill over the speakerphone is raised a bit which allows for sound to travel through even though the phone is lying flat on its back.

Back Cover

The backcover is quite glossy, but it doesn't file your fingerprints that easily and its quite sturdy. There's one thing though, its not easy to open, there is a endless series of locks that keep it in place and you have open each one of them so as to open the backcover smoothly, all the while worrying that it actually might break. On the inside you will find the battery compartment for the 2000 mAh Li-Po battery, full size 3G SIM card slot on the left, micro SD card slot in the middle and the 2G SIM card slot right next to it. That's pretty much a look around the device.

All in all, the Q1000 Opus has excellent build quality, nothing creaks or bends, atleast, not just now.

First Impressions

One thing XOLO has going for it is diversity. Its might just be the only Indian manufacturer that is experimenting with several hardware platforms all at once. You have the XOLO Play with NVIDIA Tegra, Q500 with Snapdragon 200 processor and an entire range based on MediaTek processors. Now, the Q1000 Opus features the new Broadcom BCM23550 quad-core processor which has proved upto task and competent with budget quad-core alternatives.

The XOLO Q1000 Opus has good build quality and it looks like something from Samsung's stable in that respect. The display looks crisp and colors look accurate. But there's something to say about the capacitive buttons just below it. I don't like their lighting, they look purple and faded, making the aesthetics of the device, especially with all the white, look a bit less appealing.

At first boot the device performed well without any lag. Still there are many things to test about the new chipset including benchmark performance, battery-life, gaming as well as camera quality. We will be back with all these and if there's anything specific you want us to cover just add a comment below.
